Over the course of the year, we hosted two social parties with over 200 people in attendance. The spring party was a wonderful event at PutnamNational Golf Club to honor so many of our staff for years of service and retirements. We sponsored three dress-down days to support Maria Ferrari's Children's Hospital, Yorktown Community Help and the SupportConnection. In October, nearly 40 YCT members braved bad weather to walk FDR park and collected over $2,500. In November, we began our food drive for the local food pantry. It may go unnoticed, but we have nearly 100 neighbors who rely on the food bank each week, many of them our own students. This year we collected over 3,000 pounds of food. The members of the YCT packed the house for Tip a Teacher, which brought in a record amount. All said,we donated $6,000 to support feed our community! We also had over 75 YCT members at Hudson Valley United's Bowling Extravaganza, which donated $9,000 to Project Share. A fantastic job by the Middle School who took first place over 76 other local teams. In December, four YCT members joined a handful of other locals for a Polar Plunge. Braving the elements, this group raised $6,500 for the Special Olympics. This amount exceeded all other groups thatparticipated. Last May, 60 YCT members ran NYSUT's 5k Race for Solidarity with three members placing in the top 15.
This year we have won awards from the AFT and NYSUT for videos, lesson plans, VOTE/COPE contributions and community service. We also providenearly $6,000 in scholarships to the children of YCT members!
Our message of "Service, Solutions, Solidarity" could not be more evident in all that we do. Each and every one of our members is committed to solidarity and to making our schools and community a better place. I can only hope that we can continue to serve our students, community and ourselves and that, as we brave the relentless challenges to come, we are able to capitalize on these strengths as we strategize andmobilize to conquer even greater hurdles in the future
